- Multistate manhunt for "honeybee killer"
- sheriff from Indiana and Illinois are force to arrest a killer. He
killed one person, wounded two others and menaced residents on both
sides of the borther. We calls this man "Honeybee killer", that's
because the shootings occurred in out-of-the-way locales. - At this moment, I only hope the police could hunt him down as soon
as possible. I don't know how many people will be killed by him
utill the police arrest him. He will get his penalty before long.

Sheriff: Jail employee smuggled drugs
A 15-year Cook County Jail corrections officer, Timothy Fuller,42,of Oak Park, agreed to smuggle marijuana and cocaine to an inmate in the jail's medium-security Division II building for $400, Fuller will be suspended with pay pending a termination hearing,a judge ordered the officer held in jail in lieu of $40,000 bail. He is next scheduled to appear in court Oct.29, 2010.
I can't believe that he would do something like that,he lost his job for $400.00. Now is under arrest and he is going to lose his job. He may end up in jail and he will have a record. It's going to be hard for him to get another job, after some thing like this.

Police: Man confesses to ninja-like theft in Skokie
On Sept. 5, when the store security locked the doors and left for the nights, Carol Frank Settecase a 21year old Skokie man was dressed in a ninja like outfit as he hide under a desk in the switchboard operators booth on the store's second floor. He emerged from his hiding place shortly before 8 p.m. and was filmed by store surveillance cameras as he strolled through the Westfield Old Orchard mall Nordstrom for several hours in the dead of the night.. He had stolen more than $30,000 worth of merchandise. After a 3 week of the investigation the camera's revealed that the man worked as a switchboard operator in the store. He was charged with felony theft. Carol confessed saying he planned to sell the stolen merchandise on e-bay to buy himself a motorcycle.
I think some people don't even thinking of the consequences of what could happen if they get caught . This man worked in the mall with lots of cameras , how could he even think he was going to get away with it. Just to buy himself a motorcycle ! He already had a job, all he had to do is save up now he has no job and is facing some jail time. This is also going to be in his back ground. He is now going to find it very difficult for him to find another job. This is one lesson for other's to learn from. Eventually you get caught.

Daughter of acid attack victim speaks
Esperanza Medina was attack in 2008 by 3 teenagers who threw battery acid at her face they were sent by Ofelia Garcia and daughter in law Maria Garcia. Now the 3 teens ,2 girls and 1 boy could be kept in custody until they are 21.
Esperanza Medina's daughter , Shirley Medina ,a 24 year old stood in front of a double jury in which, she spoke about the horrific aftermath of the attack with battery acid that left her mother s face burned beyond recognition. leaving her mother hospitalized for four months in medical induced coma, while doctors perform painful skin graft operations. She brought 4 photos that brought a grim to the opening of testimony. Shirley tried to keep her composure as she left the witness stand and walked past the jury. once she reached the spectators gallery she burst into tears leaned heavily on a victims advocate for comfort.
I think Shirley Medina did a great job in front of the jury. She knew she had to stand up there and express all the pain they caused everything her mother had gone thru and what she has to live with for the rest of her life. I really pray that they get justice for this horrific act. For the 2 women to get the teenagers involved not only did they cause great pain and damage to Esperanza but they also ruined 3 teenager life's.

Study: Most pimps suffered abuse
This is a very sad article concluding that some type of abuse plays a big part of how many fall into the sex trade. Their reason is not having anyone to turn to but prostitution to survive. What I don't understand is how these victims turn into victimizers by brining others into this abusive sex trade. I am happy to know that there's help out there for these victims of prostitution, by assisting with shelter and finding them a job for a decent living. I think we need programs in our schools that help kids recognize abuse and letting them know someone is always there to listen and help in any way.
In summary, all the organizers must put them in a good condition .It allowed them to give the best themselves

Right Degree, Wrong Job
Page.6
The article present some bachelors' interviews about their actually jobs after degrees finished.
One interview was John Whitehead who explained the difficulties to found a good job in agreement his studies and abilities. His goal was to become a journalist.
Then he talked about different kind of jobs that he found, for example he worked as a dispatcher for a Niles-based company. After he was laid off and replaced by computers.
Finally he decided to save money for launch own business and he said: "The market wasn't making anything happen for me, so I have to make it happen for myself".
In conclusion I think this is a big problem around the world, but I think that the Universities should have more focus about the market need and give options to choose the career.

CTA Investigating Cause of Bus Crash
CTA officials said Sunday they were continuing to investigate a bus crash Saturday evening that send 37 people to area hospitals. The accident happened 6 p.m. when the bus ran off Lake Shore drive just south of Interstate 55 and then struck a tree. During the accident 20 ambulances were sending to the scene. The accident was 2800 S. Lake Shore Drive. She said that 30 persons were sending to the hospitals. Also she said that bus was full of persons. Catherine Hosinski said that officials were in process of investigating the cause of the accident. She said they could determine a cause of the accident. First, they need to check the bus. They need to check the bus condition, review surveillance video and a black box device inside the bus also they need to have to conduct interviews to determine what transpired. In 2008 the CTA buses were involved in collisions annually. However,In 2008, CTA BUSES were involved in 303 reportable collisions.. She said that last year, there were 271 “reportable collisions” in CTA buses, the accidents result in $25,000 more in property damage.
In my opinion the city or the inspector should investigated in the way Catherine say. We don’t know the condition of the buses. The city needs to take action and prevent the accident, giving good maintenance to the buses.

GOT A CELL PHONE?
YOU’RE ROBABLY PAYING TO MUCH
The Citizens Utility Board said that in Illinois people is over paying extra dollars every year for hundreds of minutes or services that users don’t need on their cell phones. They studied 6.985 bills from these companies : Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T Mobile and US cellular, the result shows that customers are overpaying about 331$ every year on their phone bills.
I chose this article because is something that happened to everybody, considering that almost all the population have, had and will have a cell phone. People of many ages use a cell phone service. I had the opportunity to check the web sides of these companies and they make you sign a contract showing customers the best plans that they have with the “lowest” price in the market BUT non of this companies specify at that moment that your bill is going to include unnecessary services, extra fees, insurance, directory assistant, roadside assistant and many more fees and taxes added to your bill. For example if you get the cheapest plan of 78$ your bill is going to be 120$. Also this companies design their web sides to make difficult to find the extract of your bill, and people who is not familiar using the internet such us kids or elderly. They thing that they are paying those 78$ without know how much is the real price. Also when you call to the customer service you spend at least 45 minutes and the personal can’t answer those questions why the bill has to many fees or services that we don’t need but is include yes or yes in our bills. I see some people don’t care about it because this companies discount the amount of money from our bank accounts so we don’t even realize that the bill comes every 28 days and not 31 that suppose to be. In short these companies make millions of dollars every year taking advantage from people that everyday depend more and more of cell phones (texting, multimedia texts, internet, calls, videogames, ring tones, etc) and we don’t have many options because a cell phone in our days is necessary but is it right to overpay for these service?. Specially, for services that we don’t need. In my opinion it is not correct.

Little Village's ride to nowhere
The CTA eliminated the No,31 bus, which traveled along 31st,in 1997 because of low ridership. They're considering creating a community-run bus service that would travel between Cicero Avenue and 31st Street Beach. It's just a concept right now. There's already money set aside to test a 31st Street route. Betweeen Cicrero Avenue and King Drive, which would run from 5 a.m-8p.m daily. The CTA said it continues to work on finalizing the details of the 31st Street bus experiment.
I think they should reinstate the 31st bus. Will benefit a lot of people, that don't own cars. The CTA has the money to try it. This will make a little easier on all the residents of the area, they wouldn't have walk so far to ride the bus.

A new study shows that the Chicagoans spend less time when they go to word in the morning or go to back home in the evening than other major cities in the U.S.
The report said the negative effect that traffic congestion causes to the economy and to the quality of life.
According to the mobility statistics in the U.S., Chicago is part of the cities that belong to the 40 less hours a year in the travel average.
Finally, the report said some solutions on how other cities are developed. For example, housing is closer to work and neighborhoods include bicycle lanes and sidewalks.
My comment:
I actually spend 30 minutes in the morning to go to work an 30 minutes in the afternoon to go back home. So I think this strategy about compacting the cities could bring more opportunities and benefits to the community.

Before Whiteehead walks out of his south shore home, he said he often glances at his framed bachelor's degree setting on the mantle. After financial meltdown, even have a degree still hard to fine a right job. Some student went back to college again for another degree. anways, if you have a degree, even hard to fine a right job now, but the your degree is you opportunity, finally, more chance are for the people who have degree.

RIGHT DEGREE WRONG JOB
By Kyra Kyles (pg.6)
Graduates say lessons learned in collage don’t always translate into careers. John Whitehead, 34, said, “It was a big thing in my family to graduate from collage.” but it does a little more than temporarily brighten his spirit and take a place on the mantle. He worked on series of retail jobs, most recently he works as a dispatcher for a Niles-based company. He is planning to invest energy and money to open his own marketing business agency. He said, “I figured the market wasn’t making anything happen for me, so I have to make it happen for myself”. Whitehead is just one of the numbers of graduated people in their early to mid 20’s express less optimism on their degrees and got tired of looking for a job. Statistics show that 50 % of the collage educated workers (25 or younger) took jobs that didn’t require a bachelor’s degree, including waiting tables and selling retail.
I’m totally agreed with whitehead, because now it is very hard to find a job even if you are educated with a degree. I know some professional girls on their mid20’s who are working as a nannies or waitress. That’s because is hard to make money or get a job, the market is reducing personal all the time. In other hand, that is a good tendency because now people need to create a new way to make money and also to get independence. I think is good because instead of being part of the old-fashioned market ( depending of a salary from big companies), now we can get a degree and get education in order to do what is better for us, I know that is very important to study something that we liked to do, and have more success doing something for our own.

The National Police of Quito, Ecuador took the streets to protest and apparently attack the Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa, because it was cancelled bonus and promotions for them. The government declared one week of state emergency also the military is in charge of the security, they said, that they will support the President and Democracy. Correa said “they’re trying to get into my room, maybe to attack me. I don’t know.” He declared to a TV show in Ecuador. He went to the hospital after polices lobbed tear gas at him. The United Nations express his strong support for the country’s democratic institutions and elected government. In Washington, secretary of state Hillary Clinton said that United States deplore violence and express support to the Ecuadorian President.
I think that the Police shouldn’t act with violence because everything could be easy to resolve talking with honesty and respect. I understand the National police of Ecuador is asking for bonus and promotions, I consider that they must talk and get a point in common, that can benefit both sides, something reasonable. But fighting or trying to hurt President Correa is unacceptable because they suppose to protect him they are the security. Also Correa needs to listen and try to dialogue with them in order to keep peace in Ecuador.

CROSSWALK CONFUSION
Page 8
By Chicago Tribune.
The new law took effect this summer but the people as yet known public, this law pretend to reducing crashes involving pedestrians.
The old law in Illinois required drivers to yield to pedestrians and stop only when necessary. Now the new law drivers most stop for pedestrians in all crosswalks -even those that are unmarked or don't have a stop sing or a traffic signal-. The penalty for failing to stop is a traffic citation of $50 to $500. Fines vary by county.
The residents like the new law, because everyday when trying to cross different streets in down towm many cabs and buses to obstruct and delay to arrival a job or everywhere, as well as, to hear drivers cursing and yelling.
My comment:
I think that the new law is a benefit for us, because many resident, tourist (taking pictures) and students could move more easily and safely when walk in down town.

Driven to distraction
CNN
Distracted drivers had lost their lives across the country. Numbers released by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say the same overall traffic deaths in 2009 as in 2008, meaning it's a big problem across de country.
The report says, in addition, shows crashes linked to distracted driving claimed 5.474 lives and led to 448.000 injures in 2009.
The proportion of fatalities by drivers distraction has increased from 10% in 2005 and traffic fatalities fell in 2009 to their lowest levels since 1950; for these reasons, in January federal regulators proposed a set of guidelines for states to create laws that would ban text messaging while driving.
The purpose of the new law is to authorize officers to stop a vehicle and issue a citation to drivers who are texting while driving. In cases resulting in serious injury or death, a driving while texting offense could be considered a felony.
Comment: I think this is a good law because drivers of all the country, and why not in all the world, are dieing everyday and not only that, They are killing innocent people who probably never had sended a message in his life. I think the penalty should be very expensive.

First of all, I would like to say PAH(phenylalanine hydroxylase) is bad for our environment and causes brain damage and as much that they used for the oil spilled, I would think it's not a safe amount. I think the BP executives should of been prepared for any type of disaster. They should just stop blaming others for this mess and be held responsible and charged. Its asset should be sold to pay for all the damages and the removal of the oil using the proper safety manner. This oil is on our American shores now which is the same water that touches all coastal nations and the chemicals are in our air. I haven't heard much on the news about this anymore and decided to look it up, it's really scary! This disaster will eventually affect us all in one way or another. Only time will tell.

NIGHTS AT THE MUSEUM
Tribune REDEYE (PG 3)
Voting is open to decide who is going to be the person that is going to be part of a living experiment at the Science and Industry museum. There are 5 finalists: Alex Dainis (Mansfield.Mass), Felix Jung ( Chicago), Krispijn Larrison (Seattle), Kate McGroarty ( Chicago) and Johnathan Wilson ( Lake Charles. La) after 1.500 people who applied to be part of the exhibit of the museum. The person who will be choose is gong to live for 30 days at the museum (Oct. 20 to Nov. 18) also he or she is going to receive 10.000$ as a reward of his/her contribution. You can vote at monthatthemuseum.org that started this Monday and will end on October 4.
I think that is a very interesting idea, to have that type of experience living at the museum. Indeed I think more than a experiment it is a marketing strategy where they use a person to be part of the exhibition, in order to get more visitors, so this people interested in the new ‘item’ would go to the museum, spending money in parking, tickets and snack in other hand the affluence of visitors is going to increase, that is good because some people would rather to spend their time in different places than to go to the museum and have a cultural experience.

Trapped Miners Make Verbal Contact
On August 5, 33 workers were trapped in gold and copper mine in northern Chile when it collapsed. A probe reached the miners when it was discovered they were found alive after 17 days with their sprits high of hope they cheered and applauded and sang the country’s national anthem in their first verbal contact with officials. All of Chile Celebrated! Miner Luiz Uruza first miner to speak to officials has said they survived by sharing a small amounts of tuna, mackerel and a jar of peaches. A second probe reached the miners that are capable of relaying communication food and water between the trapped miners and those on the ground. Family members and residents of Chile held vigil outside mine to let the miners they were being thought of Minister Lawrence Golbornen also talked and gave encouragement words to the miners trapped.
I was sad to hear that the miners were trapped in the mine. There are so many things that could happen and lead to a devastation. They could die from starvation, from not getting sufficient air, gas from inside, everything caving in on top of them. It’s good that this particular time was with a positive outcome. The miners are fine, family members have been communicating with them and even seen them on video. They are also sending food and water so that they could survive. It’s been seventeen days and everyone is still holding on to their hopes and prayers.

Blues Brothers mall exits stage left
Dixie Square Mall in Harvey has sat vacant and decaying-a symbol of despair and loss of jobs and retail in the south suburbs. On Thursday ,Quinn announced a $4 million federal grant for what officials claim will be the first step toward revitalizing that area . After the building is demolished , local leaders hope the site will be redeveloped into another shopping area .
I don't know why they waited so long to fix up the area . Now the building is falling down . the jobs and the stores all went away , why didn't they do this 30 years ago .

Bill ties repeal of gay ba to troops raises

Title of the article: Bill ties repeal of gay ban to troops raises
A summary if the article: Cogressioal Democrats plan to push key policy objectives, including a repeal of the ba on gays serving openly in the U.S. military and an immigrations measure. Democrats have added a provision that would abolish the military´s "don´t ask, don´t tell" policy and want to add an immigration measure called the DREAM Act. Republicans are vowing to filibuster the defense bill, charging Democrats with using it to win over voters.
My opinion: I think that Democrats have add something good like the DREAM Act, because many students want to still study even when they are illegal immigrants. I support the idea to protect the rigths to evebody in United States.

Boys Death an Accident

Boy's Death an Accident
For years, a multigenerational Pierce family raised their children in the far
south side in the Roseland neighborhood where they felt safe, with the majority of
older residents and family living nearby. For the exception of one family member,
who felt the home wasn't safe. So he bought a gun. On a Sunday evening, after
finding the key, the two brothers went into the basement to open the box that kept
the 20-guage weapon! A 12 year old Michael Pierce and his 14 year old brother
decided to play with the gun. When suddenly it went off , striking Michael in the
face. Michael's adopted mother told police she found him at 6:50 pm on the foot of
the basement stairs. He was then taken to Oak Lawn Hospital. Where he was
pronounced dead in less than 30 minutes. After an investigation by the police
department and the Department of children's and family Services , it was concluded
that it was an accident and the 14year old boy was released.
This is a tragedy where a child has lost his life to an accidental shooting, also the boy
who shot his own brother is going to need therapy to live with this for the rest of his life.
Unfortunately this happens allot. Children are very curious and will eventually find a way to
get into things. In this incident the gun was locked away and the boys knew where the guns
was kept and still managed to get a hold of the gun. People buy guns to
protect their home and family but who is going to protect the children from getting a hold of
the gun. I really think people with children should not have guns in their home there are
many other options and ways to protect a home such as alarms and stun guns.
Crosswalk confusion

Author:Tribune
The former crosswalk law in Illinois required drivers to yield to pedestrians and stop only when necessary. Now, drivers must stop for pedestrians in all crosswalk-even those that are inmarked or don't have a stop sign or a traffic citation of $50 to $500. Fines vary by county. The new law also applies to instances in which a pedestrian enters the crosswalk against a "don't walk" signal or a red light, just as the old law required drivers to yield in such cases, officials said.
The law, which is all about improving safety and reducing crashes involving pedestians.

- Red Line shooting unjustified, lawyer says
- George Lash, 19, he was shot by chicago police on a CTA train. Police said George was brought a gun on the train and pointed it at police. That's why police fired at him. But some witnesses were contradicted what polices said. They never saw George have a gun when police shot and arrested him. The CTA offcials said the cameras in that train were turned over to the police. They said that video was showing police's version. This case is still unjustified.
- Whatever Geoge carried a gun or not, I think the polices was impetuous of this case. They destoryed a young life, a spoil son of the parents, and a family's hope. I hope the police can face to their fault if they did something wrong on this case.

The article said that “distracted driving claimed the same percentage of overall traffic deaths in 2009 as in 2008, according to numbers released Monday, meaning it’s still a big problem across the country, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says.” He said that there is a “report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows crashes linked to distracted driving claimed 5,474 lives and led to 448,000 injuries across the United States in 2009.” He said that there were distracted drivers at the age 20. He said that a minimum fine of $75.00 and unspecified action against their driving privileges. In cases resulting in serious injury or death, a driving while texting offense could be considered a felony.
In my opinion, I agree with Ray Hood because many people use the cell phone while they drive. When people use the cell phone, texting is very danger while they drive. Many people died in crash or accident. I would like to say stop use your cell phone while you drive, take care other people and take care your life.

6) The CTA needs to have better security , cameras came see , what's going on . But not stop someone in a restricted area . They need a Id swipe or hand print machine , so that anyone wearing a CTA uniform is a real CTA employee , not someone wanting to be a bus driver . From the way the unknow man , did everything right , it sounds like he maybe a ex-employee .
