Would high-speed rail fly here
by Chicago Tribune / unknow

Mayor Daley rode the Shanghai Transrapid magnetic-levitation train in China, wich takes seven minutes from Pudong airport to central Shanghai a speeds reaching 268 mph. Daley has brought home interesting trinkets. The mayor shared his vision for a similar system that would operate between downtown Chicago and O'Hare. A lot of investors are interested in designing, building and operating such a bullet train for Chicago. MarySue Barrett, president of the Metropolitan Planing Council, isn't worry about the public opinion because it's a good invest for residents of Chicago. Rich Rodriguez, CTA President, doesn't like this vision because Chicago has another problems in the transit issue, like connect North and South more easier, perhaps on Cicero or Western avenues, above the traffic. Rodriguez said the monorail is an option to have best service in CTA.

In my opinion, It's too easy be in love with the technology as the Mayor Daley is with the Shanghai Transrapid but it's more important fix local transit problems before bring a new train system. As Rich Rodriguez said that Chicago has a problem connecting North to South because CTA doesn't has the best train system. It's of course a huge opportunity to Chicago has a train with this speed and technology. Other fact that the Mayor Daley most considerer it's the investors, id the new train is private it will be really expensive as the parking meter and other services. This new interest for Chicago most to be considerer seriously before do it.
