The National Police of Quito, Ecuador took the streets to protest and apparently attack the Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa, because it was cancelled bonus and promotions for them. The government declared one week of state emergency also the military is in charge of the security, they said, that they will support the President and Democracy. Correa said “they’re trying to get into my room, maybe to attack me. I don’t know.” He declared to a TV show in Ecuador. He went to the hospital after polices lobbed tear gas at him. The United Nations express his strong support for the country’s democratic institutions and elected government. In Washington, secretary of state Hillary Clinton said that United States deplore violence and express support to the Ecuadorian President.
I think that the Police shouldn’t act with violence because everything could be easy to resolve talking with honesty and respect. I understand the National police of Ecuador is asking for bonus and promotions, I consider that they must talk and get a point in common, that can benefit both sides, something reasonable. But fighting or trying to hurt President Correa is unacceptable because they suppose to protect him they are the security. Also Correa needs to listen and try to dialogue with them in order to keep peace in Ecuador.

CROSSWALK CONFUSION

By Chicago Tribune.
The new law took effect this summer but the people as yet known public, this law pretend to reducing crashes involving pedestrians.
The old law in Illinois required drivers to yield to pedestrians and stop only when necessary. Now the new law drivers most stop for pedestrians in all crosswalks -even those that are unmarked or don't have a stop sing or a traffic signal-. The penalty for failing to stop is a traffic citation of $50 to $500. Fines vary by county.
The residents like the new law, because everyday when trying to cross different streets in down towm many cabs and buses to obstruct and delay to arrival a job or everywhere, as well as, to hear drivers cursing and yelling.
My comment:
I think that the new law is a benefit for us, because many resident, tourist (taking pictures) and students could move more easily and safely when walk in down town.

Driven to distraction
Redeye, Tuesday, September 21, 2010
CNN
Distracted drivers had lost their lives across the country. Numbers released by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say the same overall traffic deaths in 2009 as in 2008, meaning it's a big problem across de country.
The report says, in addition, shows crashes linked to distracted driving claimed 5.474 lives and led to 448.000 injures in 2009.
The proportion of fatalities by drivers distraction has increased from 10% in 2005 and traffic fatalities fell in 2009 to their lowest levels since 1950; for these reasons, in January federal regulators proposed a set of guidelines for states to create laws that would ban text messaging while driving.
The purpose of the new law is to authorize officers to stop a vehicle and issue a citation to drivers who are texting while driving. In cases resulting in serious injury or death, a driving while texting offense could be considered a felony.
Comment: I think this is a good law because drivers of all the country, and why not in all the world, are dieing everyday and not only that, They are killing innocent people who probably never had sended a message in his life. I think the penalty should be very expensive.

BP SPREADS BLAME
On April 20th eleven workers died and seventeen injured in the BP explosion in the Gulf of Mexico in which is one of the world worst offshore oil spill that lasted 3 months. After 4.9 million barrels of oil leaked into the sea , causing 10 billion dollars in damages killing and injuring many wild life. Many people lost business in tourism as well as the seafood industries. On July 15 it was finally capped, when they used a mixture of cement and mud that allowed hydrocarbons to leak in the well and now at this point they want to share the blame with the contractors. Focusing on series of mechanical failure, human judgments and engineering design. This oil is still in our water they sprayed our ocean with a chemical called PAH saying the amount is safe.
First of all, I would like to say PAH(phenylalanine hydroxylase) is bad for our environment and causes brain damage and as much that they used for the oil spilled, I would think it's not a safe amount. I think the BP executives should of been prepared for any type of disaster. They should just stop blaming others for this mess and be held responsible and charged. Its asset should be sold to pay for all the damages and the removal of the oil using the proper safety manner. This oil is on our American shores now which is the same water that touches all coastal nations and the chemicals are in our air. I haven't heard much on the news about this anymore and decided to look it up, it's really scary! This disaster will eventually affect us all in one way or another. Only time will tell.

NIGHTS AT THE MUSEUM
Tribune REDEYE (PG 3)
Voting is open to decide who is going to be the person that is going to be part of a living experiment at the Science and Industry museum. There are 5 finalists: Alex Dainis (Mansfield.Mass), Felix Jung ( Chicago), Krispijn Larrison (Seattle), Kate McGroarty ( Chicago) and Johnathan Wilson ( Lake Charles. La) after 1.500 people who applied to be part of the exhibit of the museum. The person who will be choose is gong to live for 30 days at the museum (Oct. 20 to Nov. 18) also he or she is going to receive 10.000$ as a reward of his/her contribution. You can vote at monthatthemuseum.org that started this Monday and will end on October 4.
I think that is a very interesting idea, to have that type of experience living at the museum. Indeed I think more than a experiment it is a marketing strategy where they use a person to be part of the exhibition, in order to get more visitors, so this people interested in the new ‘item’ would go to the museum, spending money in parking, tickets and snack in other hand the affluence of visitors is going to increase, that is good because some people would rather to spend their time in different places than to go to the museum and have a cultural experience.

All of Chile Celebrated! Miner Luiz Uruza first miner to speak to officials has said they survived by sharing a small amounts of tuna, mackerel and a jar of peaches. A second probe reached the miners that are capable of relaying communication food and water between the trapped miners and those on the ground. Family members and residents of Chile held vigil outside mine to let the miners they were being thought of Minister Lawrence Golbornen also talked and gave encouragement words to the miners trapped.
I was sad to hear that the miners were trapped in the mine. There are so many things that could happen and lead to a devastation. They could die from starvation, from not getting sufficient air, gas from inside, everything caving in on top of them. It’s good that this particular time was with a positive outcome. The miners are fine, family members have been communicating with them and even seen them on video. They are also sending food and water so that they could survive. It’s been seventeen days and everyone is still holding on to their hopes and prayers.

Dixie Square Mall in Harvey has sat vacant and decaying-a symbol of despair and loss of jobs and retail in the south suburbs. On Thursday ,Quinn announced a $4 million federal grant for what officials claim will be the first step toward revitalizing that area . After the building is demolished , local leaders hope the site will be redeveloped into another shopping area .
I don't know why they waited so long to fix up the area . Now the building is falling down . the jobs and the stores all went away , why didn't they do this 30 years ago .

Democrats have added a provision that would abolish the military´s "don´t ask, don´t tell" policy and want to add an immigration measure called the DREAM Act. Republicans are vowing to filibuster the defense bill, charging Democrats with using it to win over voters.
My opinion: I think that Democrats have add something good like the DREAM Act, because many students want to still study even when they are illegal immigrants. I support the idea to protect the rigths to evebody in United States.

Boy's Death an Accident
For years, a multigenerational Pierce family raised their children in the far
south side in the Roseland neighborhood where they felt safe, with the majority of
older residents and family living nearby. For the exception of one family member,
who felt the home wasn't safe. So he bought a gun. On a Sunday evening, after
finding the key, the two brothers went into the basement to open the box that kept
the 20-guage weapon! A 12 year old Michael Pierce and his 14 year old brother
decided to play with the gun. When suddenly it went off , striking Michael in the
face. Michael's adopted mother told police she found him at 6:50 pm on the foot of
the basement stairs. He was then taken to Oak Lawn Hospital. Where he was
pronounced dead in less than 30 minutes. After an investigation by the police
department and the Department of children's and family Services , it was concluded
that it was an accident and the 14year old boy was released.
This is a tragedy where a child has lost his life to an accidental shooting, also the boy
who shot his own brother is going to need therapy to live with this for the rest of his life.
Unfortunately this happens allot. Children are very curious and will eventually find a way to
get into things. In this incident the gun was locked away and the boys knew where the guns
was kept and still managed to get a hold of the gun. People buy guns to
protect their home and family but who is going to protect the children from getting a hold of
the gun. I really think people with children should not have guns in their home there are
many other options and ways to protect a home such as alarms and stun guns.

- George Lash, 19, he was shot by chicago police on a CTA train. Police said George was brought a gun on the train and pointed it at police. That's why police fired at him. But some witnesses were contradicted what polices said. They never saw George have a gun when police shot and arrested him. The CTA offcials said the cameras in that train were turned over to the police. They said that video was showing police's version. This case is still unjustified.
- Whatever Geoge carried a gun or not, I think the polices was impetuous of this case. They destoryed a young life, a spoil son of the parents, and a family's hope. I hope the police can face to their fault if they did something wrong on this case.

In my opinion, I agree with Ray Hood because many people use the cell phone while they drive. When people use the cell phone, texting is very danger while they drive. Many people died in crash or accident. I would like to say stop use your cell phone while you drive, take care other people and take care your life.
