Distracted drivers had lost their lives across the country. Numbers released by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say the same overall traffic deaths in 2009 as in 2008, meaning it's a big problem across de country.

The report says, in addition, shows crashes linked to distracted driving claimed 5.474 lives and led to 448.000 injures in 2009.

The proportion of fatalities by drivers distraction has increased from 10% in 2005 and traffic fatalities fell in 2009 to their lowest levels since 1950; for these reasons, in January federal regulators proposed a set of guidelines for states to create laws that would ban text messaging while driving.

The purpose of the new law is to authorize officers to stop a vehicle and issue a citation to drivers who are texting while driving. In cases resulting in serious injury or death, a driving while texting offense could be considered a felony.

Comment: I think this is a good law because drivers of all the country, and why not in all the world, are dieing everyday and not only that, They are killing innocent people who probably never had sended a message in his life. I think the penalty should be very expensive.
